All I wanna do when I get home is eat and sleep..skip the eating part sometimes sef. It's funny how I have no intention of practicing criminal law but the two internships I got this summer are criminal law related hehe. For the first half of the summer I worked for the prosecution and for the second half I'm working the defense angle..its been interesting but I'd rather be on the prosecution's side sha hehe
Speaking of which, I never realized just how rampant DWI (Driving while intoxicated)/DUI's (Driving under the influence) were until I worked at the DA's this summer. There are signs all over the place warning people not to drink & drive and adverts on the radio and TV warning people not to drink & drive especially during holiday periods but people just keep doing it. Ridiculous, if you ask me. Personally, I don't drink and I have nothing against people who drink as long as they do it responsibly. If you have to get drunk whenever you drink (cos I've met people like that) then while you're budgeting how much you intend spending on your drinks, budget money for the cab you'll be calling to take you home. It's as simple as that.
While at the DA's I was asked to attend a presentation on intoxication manslaughter where a 911 tape was played. On the tape a man had called 911 for help because he was stranded on the road (something was wrong with his car)and needed some assistance. While on the phone he got run over and killed by a drunk driver, like we literally heard the car run over him and silence on the phone after. Just imagine that!
DWI/DUI might be a misdemeanor but best believe it's one of those offenses no one wants to have on their record and it's a pretty serious offense too.
Even with my school buddies, they let me know when they're gonna be drinking a lot so I'm prepared to drive when we hang out together....I'm probably gonna be doing a lot of that cos if the last one year is anything to go by, law students sure like to drink!
Assault cases were another eye opener for me..made me sad sometimes especially when it had to do with family members..plus alcohol/drugs were involved in 99% of the cases.
Anyway, aside all my intern waka summer has been good. Hung out with some non-law peeps along with my law buddies a few days ago and it was refreshing to hang out with people who aren't law students. I'm still relatively new to the area so all the people I know are my law buddies and whenever we hang out we tend to end up discussing legal issues, especially with everyone working at different places and experiencing different areas of law. It's generally a good thing (iThink) but every once in a while one needs a break from it.
I've finally got my workout schedule back in place :). Its taken me almost a year to finally get it back together but I'm glad I have..I have to get up really early to get it done though but I really don't mind, gotta stay healthy!
I totally got called out for my Nigerianess not too long ago hehe. Actually, na me find trouble. I was complaining to my friend who happens to be from this state where my school is located that I felt like people in this place are so pro-state and that it almost felt like all they cared about was themselves and the rest of the country could go to hell, lol. I told her I wasn't used to that coming from cali where everyone was all "we are Californians" but there was still that sense of "we are Americans" there. After several attempts to defend the state without me budging she finally went "how's that different from you Nigerians though? Y'all are the proudest Africans I know, every Nigerian I've ever met is very proud of being Nigerian and makes it known." LOOOOL!! I guess it didn't help me any that her sister happens to be married to a Nigerian hehe I tried convincing her that it was different since we are a country and theirs a state but home girl no gree..she suggested I take trips to other cities within the state before sticking to my conclusions about them cos they are not like that.
I met a few members of the incoming class at one of the events we had in school recently..oh boy! They have no idea hehe but I encouraged them..the first year is tough and I'm sure they realize that and they'll be fine. I will be putting a post about my first year soon
Choi! This post is getting too long sha and I've not even finished saying everything I wanna say, plus it's past my bedtime here. I'll be back yo!
Y'all have a good week and be good :)

My first day & things....

Just finished watching the Dallas Mavs v. Miami Heat NBA finals game 1 and as much as I'm trying to form team "may the better team win," Lord knows I'd love to see Mavs whopping some Heat butt..it's the least they can do for me after what they did to my Laker :). Sha, it's only game 1 so I'm keeping hope alive for game 2. If Mavs lose game 2 then #izallover for them, they need to bring out more athletic ammunition than they brought out for my Lakers hehe..shey they wanted NBA Finals nah, 'cos we all know that Miami Heat aren't gonna go down without some serious fight.

Anyway, enough of my NBA talk. So, 9 months into my intense legal training & information load (I refuse to call it overload) and making it through my first year of law school, I donned on my lawyerly attire for my first day as a legal intern.
I had a good day putting some of the skills and knowledge I've gained in the last couple of months to actual use though..it felt nice to be calling some shots however small hehe..but the things some human beings do shaaaaa dang! The lawyers I worked with were very friendly too, even the top boss, I was quite surprised..very nice people, gave me the opportunity to do a lot of things on my first day.

Just now trying to get a full hang of this zone I moved to..not like I really have a choice sha but I'll try and start loving it. I attended a conference about 2 weeks ago and trust that the only black people to show up for the conference were Africans. There were 5 of us, 4 of us were Nigerians :) was nice though, got to meet with some interesting and smart folks and made some new connections.

I had a funny discussion about relationships with my bro yesterday, he had some choice words for some of the men and women in naija these days especially the ones in Lagos heheee..things are happening in that city o. I was trying to prevent him from setting himself up for a heartbreak but he seems to have it all figured out..

Some of my neighbors, who happen to be African-Americans, are crazy about jollof rice (no kidding). They hang around with so many Nigerians, one of them even has the old naija N20 currency..had to cook some jollof for them recently and y'all needed to have seen how excited they were. One of them told me sometime back "you see, we don't have jollof rice in America, it's hard to come by so when we find it we have to go hard!" Lol.

I think I've yapped on enough, you all have a good week and be good :)

2011, just like that!

Happy new year everyone, wow! I don't know if it's only me but 2010 went by quite fast. I wish you all a splendid 2011, I pray we all continuously have reason to be thankful in this year and beyond.
2010 was a tough but good year for me, I learned a lot..about myself and some more about human beings in general, took a couple of steps in the next stage of my academics, met a couple of interesting folks, drove a little over a day to a new state, missed my family a LOT, had quite a number of crying sessions with my dad over the phone (my dad doesn't like it when I cry sha hehe I keep on telling him that I'm a woman and crying helps me feel better at times), I GREW!!
I just had one of the best Christmas and new year breaks ever :) a lot of chilling, actually taking the time out to see this new city of mine..in good company too, pure bliss I tell ya.
I want to talk about Nigeria, but I don't even know where to start from..some things happening in that country leave me speechless, make me wonder about the sanity of the individuals we call "leaders," or reiterate my opinion that some people look like human being but really aren't. I pray for peace in Jos and the country in general especially in this election year, that country has so much potential.
On Haiti, quite frankly I don't understand how millions and millions of dollars in relief funds were donated to Red Cross, Unicef etc. yet little has been done to improve the situation. What happened to all the money?
Sometimes I see life as a survival of the fittest kind of process. In some way I think it is but there's a risk of individuals going through life only mentally without fully experiencing life in of itself with that kind of mentality IMHO..kinda makes it not life then plus there's the potential to treat others harshly since you're unlikely to be empathetic----
Anyway, I just said to wish everyone a happy new year..I'm still on break from school here :) few more days to go so I'll try and enjoy sleeping in some more :D

Take care and be good :)

Another week beckons....

How's it going everyone? Hope everything has been great with you all.
So yes! Another week beckons meeeeen! it's been a productive weekend for me though, got quite a number of stuff done and all....I also got to treat myself to recorded episodes of Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice :) I love those shows mehn! especially Grey's Anatomy - best show everrrrr! Haha....for someone who perpetually had her TV on before school started I think I've adjusted pretty well to rarely watching TV, I still watch CNN and go on them BBC, 234NEXT, CNN etc. websites to read news when I get the chance though :) gotta stay in the loop ya knooooow :)
On the Chilean miners, I can't imagine how tough it must have been for those men sha, 69 whole days underground!! They are heroes in my book mehn! Must have taken grace, courage and a lot of mental discipline..even the rescuers are heroes too, they did such a great job!
Okay so I have this dude on my facebook page who always uses Creflo Dollar's quotes as his status update without giving the Mr. Creflo credit, in other words, he just puts the quote there gbam as his status no[-Creflo Dollar]. I know this because I follow Creflo on twitter and I see his quotes only for me to log unto FB and dude has posted it as his status. He has done it a number of times too..in my mind sha dat one na plagiarism....but then again what do I know, I'm just a 1L :)
On Nigerian politics, hmmmmmn I don't even know where to start or finish, na wa! From the Dokpesi implication, MEND involvement and all..it's quite discouraging. In my opinion, those text messages are just too easy, like would they seriously put Dokpesi's name out there like that if they were really planning something like that?? However, I hear Dokpesi's rebuttal wasn't quite on point so who knows....let's see how it all plays out.
I'm fortunate to have 3 Nigerian second year law student at my school giving me invaluable advice (one especially), genuinely nice people too..I'm so thankful meeeen. My person Dizzle has been such a great, great help too! You're awesome and I thank you
Alright people, I think I've said enough for now :) gotta get some sleep while I still can :D

Have a great week and be good!

I'm still here! :)

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_xuYPW0yeer4/TKlrwMhWyPI/AAAAAAAAABs/pEvi8c5V4ek/s200/The+drive+1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5524064893685647602" />
I really am o, my bad pplz. It's been at least two months since I last posted something on here....it just happened sha, wasn't really my intention, life got a quite busy PLUS there's twitter for instant unleashing hehehehe..Anyway, I'm back in this space, what am talking about? I never left yo!! :) Here's a quick rundown..

Life in general has been quite interesting these past few months, I had to move to a different state for school..the longest drive of my life yet! Took me quite a bit to settle down in this new zone....been missing my family a whole lot..in episodes too :) It was just so easy to up and leave my previous zone without any attachments and it just kinda hits me from time to time..not easy yo but then again I'm of the opinion that "if you're going through it then it's necessary," plus there's always the phone call I can make to speak to my family AND I've got my personal person Dizzle (I know u're reading this. Thank you so much for taking this journey with me from the very beginning, you absolutely ROCK!! :-))
I'm having to learn my way around town here, always equipped with my GPS heheee but I managed to drive to a few places without it yesterday so things are looking up on that end...the picture above is actually one of the few I took on my drive to this zone

Law school no be beans o! It really is like a jealous boyfriend for real..it's all reading, briefing, outlining, reading some more, briefing..the whole works BUT I love it :-)) hehehehe I think the fact that my section mates have a really good sense of humor helps quite a bit..everyone's pretty chill and friendly.
I love, love, love all my professors too! :) So much respect I have for them yo even if one of them has a particularly difficult time pronouncing my last name lol! it's so funny cos my last name is not hard to pronouce at all, I mean, it's spelt exactly the way it looks..I have to correct him like 3-4 times anytime I get called on (most profs. go by last name only)....but he's a really cool prof. though, actually had us over at his place this past weekend for a class party :) really nice of him iThink!
What else can tell you guys o? hmmmmn..oh yeah I think that's about it, I'm making a conscious effort (thanks to Dizzle) not to be a recluse and hang out with my classmates whenever there's something planned.. :)

That's all folks, have a great week and be good!

Ponderings & stuvs

Hiya pplz!!!! Hope the summer is treating everyone good? Summer's been alright on this end....the heat don dey get as e be sha but it's all good I guess.

So I've been thinking a lot about experiences. We all go through various experiences in life; some pleasant, others not so pleasant. Unpleasant experiences, as bad as some of mine have been, have taught me some invaluable life lessons. They've also been very humbling....I'm grateful.

I once told someone that one of the scary things about marriage to me is the fact that you've to be able to tell that the person you're getting married to will feel the same way about you & be willing to put in as much effort into the marriage some 10,20,30,40 years down the road as on the wedding day. Over time however, I've come to realize that it's possible to tell, but one has to pay close attention....people show us who they really are.

My co-worker had an interesting question for me a few days back, here's the scenario:
You have an African-American male/female & and a Nigerian male/female dressed exactly the same way in front of you, How are you able to tell the Nigerian? Like what facial features etc. do you look at to tell you they are Nigerian?

I couldn't give her a direct answer, I mean, I really don't know how but most times I'm able to tell who's Nigerian and who's not no matter how they're dressed but I'm not aware of what features make it obvious though. Maybe I need someone to point out to me, what do you all think? Also, I don't know that there's a specific Nigerian look since we all tend to look quite different depending on what part of the country you're from.

#randomgist
My neighbour's dogs decided to go crazy on me sometime last week. As in! The last time I had to scream about dogs like this was in primary 5. It's more puzzling cos I've lived next door to this neighbour for almost 4 years and nothing this serious has ever happened. I really don't know what got into them that day, plus I was carrying a pack of bottled water into the complex when it happened. Y'all should have seen how fast I dropped it LOL! My survival instincts kicked in sharpish yo! It took my neighbour a few seconds to react 'cos they too were surprised. After the incident I just kept on laughing to myself....I'm glad I could laugh about it at the end sha.

That's all folks, be good! :)

Howz it going pplz?

Sup pplz? I can't believe the first half of the year is almost over......well actually I can but I've gotta admit it has gone by pretty fast. How una dey now? Hope the year is treating you all really good.

For me, it's been an interesting year so far. I've become increasingly (and might I add alarmingly) aware of how naive I am :-). I think it's the way I was brought up though...kinda sheltered? dunno but I guess it's this attitude of assuming everyone is like me (NOT!) and trusting them at a much higher level than I ought to. People are CRUEL shaaaaaa dang! I don't know about everyone out there but I believe that this life we're all living is a small part of a much bigger whole and it shocks me when I see the kinda actions some people take in the name of money , fame and whatnot. I mean, these people have to not give a damn about how they end up after death to be taking such actions. It's a pity.

Moving on, this BP oil spill just reminds me of the Niger-delta region and how little (if any) is done to help with the oil spills there. At least here the company is being held accountable and is responsible for clean-up cost, plus there's Anderson Cooper and co. all up in their face every night.

I need a vacation,I think I've mentioned this before but this time it's more serious. I need to take a break from my present space. Funny thing is I got offered a paid trip to the UK.....I no sure say I wan take am, the offer even get expiration date sef hehehehe but I think I'm gonna pass.

Ehen! ppl please how am I vain for having a pic of myself on my phone's wall? My dear friends says it should be any other pic but mine, he has a pic of his niece on his & keeps on calling me vain.....I tell am say make e go siddon.

How this world cup wan take be na? I haven't been too focused on it with the NBA finals going on and stuff but it'll be awesome if Nigeria wins that game with Argentina sha, impossible is nothing :-)

So I finally joined twitter, interesting place I tell you. I can understand why people are crazy about it....u can go ahead and follow me here if you'd like.

Have a great week people and be good!

Love is Blind......or is it? on Verastic Radio, enjoy!

Hope everyone has had a great week.

I'll be co-hosting on Verastically Speaking Talk Radio with Vera Ezimora tomorrow

Saturday, May 1st 2010 and the topic is:

Love is blind.....or is it?

I've said in a previous post that:

"Contrary to popular belief, I'm of the opinion that "love is NOT blind." What irks me about this whole thing is really not the fact that he's running/plans to run, cos quite frankly anyone with money and influence can wake up one day and say the want to run for office, but the fact that there are many people in Nigeria willing to vote for this man despite all he did in the past. it's some of these people who'll start complaining when things aren't run the way they should be, heck! some of them are even complaining now.

Then there are those who claim IBB is the only one who can fix Nigeria, foolish! I tell you. Isn't that what they said about OBJ? mscheeew! yeye ppl, there they go again with recycling instead of giving educated and exposed individuals the opportunity to fix the country.

God dey sha but then again God helps those who help themselves, Nigeria in the hands of the current leaders is not proving (at least in my opinion) to be helping itself. God is still there waiting sha.

In other news :) I find it amazing that my friends from secondary school are the only ones who seem to get me completely. Ha! I think it's those six formative years we spent together in FGGC....(fill in d blank)but I like that though.

They say I'm too hard to guys but I disagree. My own be say if u say u like me, then u've gotta prove it to me, and don't expect me to help u prove it to me by making excuses for u when u're not living up to what u claim. No time wasters abeg!

Speaking of which, wasup with some guys sha? why does she have to be fronting because she says she's not interested? Then they start with the side comments like: u don old o!, dey there ur mates don marry, ur mates don dey born pikin etc. LOL!
Why do some of u have to go that route? Tryna make her desperate? shu! make una dey look well before u try all those kain yarns.

Anyway, hope everyone is having a good week. Although I had to work on my birthday, my co-workers made sure I had a great day and quite frankly it was one of my best bdays so far.

My heart goes out to families of the victims of the mine explosion in W. Virginia. May God give them the fortitude and grace to bear the loss of loved ones, Amen.

I used to look down on people who say they don't want to have children cos I didn't think it was normal. Over the years, my opinion on that has changed. I would rather you don't have children than have them and not take care of them. it's a huge responsibility to be a parent & you owe it to whomever you believe is of highest authority to give your child the best life possible.

Contrary to popular belief, I'm of the opinion that "love is NOT blind." Today March 30, 2010 is my birthday and for some reasons I'm really excited, I can't explain it but I've been in the celebratory mood since yesterday the 29th. Don't get me wrong I'm always excited about my day and stuff but there's something quite different about this one, and to think I'm gonna be working too..oh well. I'm not quite where I imagined I would be at this age but I've gotta say I'm very grateful to be alive and living in the consciousness of who I am; and I know, like I know, like I know, that I'm right where I need to be. In the past one year of my life:

- I got slapped by one exam like that
- I graduated
- I chose to walk from a relationship (I absolutely deserve better)
- I got laid-off
- I got another job (within 10 day yo! ain't that something?)
- I got slapped harder by the same exam (I was devastated)
- I gave that exam one sound backhand slap (sweet victory)
- I gained a number of acquaintances ( note I said "acquaintances" and not friends)
- I've grown immensely in mind & spirit (I'm grateful for the grace)

That about sums it up, some other stuvs happened here and there but these are the major highlights :)
So what's been up with everyone now? I know I haven't blogged in a while.....work got quite busy plus other things on the side...sha I'm back to regular blogging :)

I speak that in this next year of my life:
-Something(s) good is/are happening
-Something(s) magnificent is/are happening
-The realm of ever-expanding good is actively present in my life.
Amen!

Have a great week everyone and be good!

No be so my people + on Nigeria

My ppl no be so oooooo hehehe, It's been a hot minute yo but I guess that's what happens when you're working on multiple projects that require a great deal of attention plus work. Anyway, howz everyone doing? hope you're having a great year so far.

The gist of this post is mainly about our dear country Nigeria. I'm a proud Nigerian anytime or day irrespective of all the negative news we hear in the international media from time to time BUT, recent events have left me really wondering about the future of that country.

How can a president leave for medical treatment without officially handing over to his deputy? technically leaving the country without a commander-in-chief. When he finally decided to speak after weeks of silence he went on BBC, like what happened to the likes of AIT or even NTA in Nigeria? Then some of the ppl we call leaders were asking for the Vice-President to resign....in the name of u don't want powers in the hands of a southerner abi na christian now. FEC ruling the ill president fit to lead the country, how? Then that yeye former attorney general. All in the name of money and power, as if they'll take it to their graves with them.

Nigeria which way? I was born in the 80's and it's been the same group of people and their associates running the country since then: Babaginda, Abacha, Abubakar, Obasanjo (who was president under the military regime before I was born), and now Yar'Adua. We need a complete overhaul of the system, younger and fresher minds that can actually move the country forward.

There are Nigerians in the country and around the world that can make Nigeria just as great and successful as the United States, Canada, etc. if given the opportunity, I truly believe it. I mean, check out governor Fashola of Lagos for example.

Now irrespective of my feelings about President Yar'Adua's actions, I still keep him in prayers and I encourage you all to do the same. It's the least we can do as individuals.
My prayer for now acting president Jonathan Goodluck is for God to give him the wisdom & grace to lead the people of Nigeria successfully and in peace.

Have a great week everyone and be good!

It's 2010 yo!

Happy new year to all you wonderful people of blogsville!!! may this year be a positively outstanding one for you all in every aspect and may you all grow positively in mind & spirit, Amen.

I've been meaning to update o! in fact I logged in several times during the holiday break with the intent to put a post up but alas I didn't until now.
I think this was one of the best Christmas breaks I ever had sha! very relaxing. I got 2 4-day weekends in a row and spent most of my time in-doors cooking, watching movies, checking out ppls pics on facebook, sleeping and off course watching CNN...pure bliss I tell you.

Anyway, what have you all been up to? All my pplz from naija have started falling in one by one with all my goodies and so far I haven't been disappointed shu! Farouk ain't got nothing on this groundnut o! haha. Speaking of which, this Nigerian terrorist thing is quite an embarrassment. Of all days in the year too! I'm really glad that they had it on file that his dad actually tipped off officials at the US embassy in naija about his son. Personally I think that is a very HUGE plus for Nigeria.

I don't do resolution because quite frankly, I don't believe in them. why should I wait until a new year to change something I feel ought to be changed? What happened to today? I believe in setting goals though, not as the end all be all but as a guide; one has to be careful not to get too caught up in the process.

That said, I'll like to encourage you all to let the light in you shine so brightly this year, you make people put on their shades :)

It's 2010 yo! there's just something solid & sound about this year.

Have a great week ahead everyone and be good.

This Christmas

I have another 4-day weekend hehehe I didn't ask for it but I was given anyway and I'm grateful for that.
So howz everyone been doing? getting ready to booggie down this Christmas? lol!

This year I decided to go with the flow gifts wise and so far I've got some really nice gifts.

Anyway I just thought to wish everyone a splendid Christmas. I've been good but this cold is slowly but surely slipping in, the one I really don't like is when sun is shinning like sun yet the wind blowing is cold...not cool at all lol! but I'm a tough girl I can handle it (more like I no get choice).
Anyway all my personal ppl's have started checking out to naija one by one and rubbing it in my face while at it hmmn! me I no send just sha bring my groundnut and the rest when you're coming back that's my own. One of my friend keeps on worrying about me and what I'll do for Christmas and I keep on telling her I'll be fine but she doesn't believe. Thing is I'm a very bubbly person so when I tell people (like this friend of mine) that I enjoy spending time by myself they don't believe. As in I can go for days without stepping outta my apartment.....It's one of the many things about myself I like :)
On relationships, hmmn my friend's mother told me point blank that at my age I shouldn't be unperturbed about being single haha! thing is I had made a comment in her presence about not being worried with my single status and she goes "not at your age" hehehe. I know she means well for me and all so I'm not even tripping, it was just funny. I repeat in due season....
Naija ppl and title, I give una hand. Chief doc. Engr. Mr/Mrs. (Esquire) lol!!!! abi I miss anyone? Sometimes I wonder if the motivation to go to school is just for the title of it or the quest for knowledge, and God help you if miss anyone of the titles when announcing them...I still got love for my ppl though.
Life is for the living, I've had this phrase playing in my head over and over again for a while now and it really is and I'm grateful to be living....here's a quote from the meditative thought at church yesterday
"Vision without action is a fantasy and action without vision is chaos"

Have a great week everyone and be good.

Its been minutes.....

wow! its really been minutes. I would have put up something earlier but I've been soooooo busy these past few days mehn! there just wasn't enough time to put up a post in one go. Anyway here goes a couple of things that have happened in my life in those days:

1) Thanksgiving was coooool, my friends and I organized a potluck. We hardly get to see each other these days since everyone is so busy but it was fun, enough chopping and gisting plus we watched CNN heroes together......good times.

2) I've studied and studied and studied like no mans business. As in I no know say na so life go be after graduation sha! I don't drink coffee normally but I had to start drinking coffee in order to stay awake since coke and them energy drinks don't do nada for me.

3) I got a Jury duty summon ha! I always wanted to do this and hopefully it's a good case and I get picked.

4) I totally burst my friend's bubble by telling her I don't have a best friend. Thing is she was expecting me to say she is my best or at least one of my best friends since she regards me that way but...I really don't do best friends. I've got a couple of friends, few I'm closer to than others (and she's one of the few) but say have a best friend that I completely trust? uhm nah!

5) I've become more and more aware that not everyone who seems like they mean well for you actually means well for you. It's not something I just learnt but I've recently become more aware of it.

6) I've missed having a mum.

There you have it. Now on the issue of TIGER WOODS:

Okay I agree that Tiger Woods was totally and absolutely wrong for cheating on his wife especially considering the fact that she just gave birth a few months ago BUT to me this not only speaks about Tiger's character but also about the character of the woman in question. Messing around with a man knowing fully well that he has a wife and 2 very young children at home yet you call yourself a woman. Now she don go hire lawyer say wetin! U no get shame? pride? or some sense of self-worth?

I believe women are supposed to be builders and uphold a higher sense of ideal than that.

Men too una need to arrange una self haba! when them no force una marry. The question I would really like to ask Tiger woods now is:

Was it worth it afterall?

On a higher note here's a quote from the guest speaker at church today, it's one I intend to remember always
"Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence"

Have a great week everyone and be good.

Happy Thanksgiving

I am not sure which I'm more excited about, the fact that tomorrow is thanksgiving or the 4-day weekend ahead of me :) for this America so. If you've been around Armenians you'll totally get this, so funny.

10 REASONS WHY ARMENIANS CAN'T BE TERRORISTS.

1) 8:45am to too early for them
2) They are always late, would have missed all 4 flights
3) Pretty people on the plans would distract them
4) They would talk loudly and bring attention to themselves
5) With food and drinks on the plane, they'll forget why they're there
6) They talk with their hands, therefore the weapons would be put down
7) They would ALL want to fly the plane
8) They can't keep secrets, would have told everyone a week before doing it.
9) They would have to put their country's flag on the windshield
10) They would argue and start a fight in the plane.

Check this out

Men are like fine wine. They begin as grapes, and it's up to women to stomp the shit out of them until they turn into something acceptable.....

LMBO!!! Mine has been quite busy, my schedule is so tight these days mehn! but it's all for good reason so I'm not tripping :)
So every Tom, Dick & Harry Nigerian that I know decided to storm Naija this Christmas, can u imagine? All my personal pplz are running home o! a friend of mine is actually getting married in naija this Christmas but alas I am unable to make it. No wahala sha as long as I get my bottles of groundnut, packs of gala, ijebu garri, tom tom, buttermint & off course naija music CDs from each and everyone of them I should be fine lol!!! I almost sound like I'm headed for boarding school all over again but abeg! I no fit shout.
In other news my dad thinks I should get myself a boyfriend/potential husband haha! I have the funniest, insightful, and most intellectually stimulating conversations with my dad but this is the first time he has directly mentioned anything about boyfriend to me, I'm usually the one who brings up issues concerning relationships/men. I totally burst out laughing when he said it, apparently I'm at that age hehehe....I say in due season
I just love it when people think they have you all figured out yet they have not the slightest ideas who you are, they do things expecting a predictable reaction from you only to find out that you're operating on a whole different level haha I love it!
This weeks execution of the DC sniper got me thinking all over again about the death penalty and my stand on it. I have never being an advocate for death penalty no matter the crime because in all honesty I don't believe it solves much or that it really gives victims or their families closure.
Speaking of music have u guys listened to "I choose you" by Mario? I looooooove that song, so cool. You all have a great weekend and be good.

I refuse to call this a random post :)

So I was actually supposed to put this up last night but....sleep man! had to jump on that bed. Hope everyonez been doing great and happy new month o! can't believe (well actually I can haha!) the year is almost over.
Anyway I'm going through one of my "I need my space phases". You see I have these phases where I don't feel like talking to anyone and don't want anyone to be in contact with me via phone or otherwise because I don't want to feel obligated to get in contact with anyone ; I just need them to forget for a minute that I exist.
Fortunately/unfortunately I have been unable to get as much space as I want, I have about 9/10 (I lost count) voice messages on my cell as I type this now and 1/2 peeps are beginning to wonder. For some reason I don't like listening to voice-mails, I'm one of those people who'll call a friend back asking what he/she said in my voice mail because I don't wannna listen to it. So right now I have no idea what all those messages say.....and I don't like leaving voice messages for people too!
To some extent I feel this my behavior is selfish sha! as in what if someone really needs my help and calls me and in the name of "I need my space" I don't answer and things don't quite workout for this person? but then again I feel like I spend so much time trying to be strong for others and my "I need my space" phases rejuvenate me and help me be strong for my own self.

On the flip side una dey fall my hand o! so no Laker fans in the whole of this blogsville? Ehen! so who una kon dey root for? haha!

And by the way after my initial fronting hehehe Banky W's "strong thing" track is beginning to grow on me o! but I still like "Lagos party" better though :)

That's all folks be good out there.

Growing

It's amazing how little things help me realize how much I've grown and still need to grow. One of my co-workers from a different dept. went off on me today over the phone (she called from home) for something she was majorly responsible for.

Now the Tatababe of sometime last year would totally have gone off right back at her especially since she was going off about something she was primarily responsible for but today I just listened and as I've learnt over the past few months sometimes listening involves empathy.

To be honest, I think it was just pent-up frustration from much more than the job and she needed to vent, I just happened to be the one in my dept. to pick up the phone. This is not to say it was okay for her to do what she did but like I said in my very first post I'm learning to be less judgmental because "it's a grace to know". It humbles me and gives me the opportunity to be of service. I did the best I could to calm her down.

what do you think?

Over the weekend a friend of mine wanted me and a couple of her family members to checkout an apartment with her and let her know what we think as she wasn't quite sure about getting it.
On arriving the property there was a bit of excitement in the air since some of us hadn't seen each other in months, except off course on facebook haha!
Anyway after all the greetings we entered the building and that was where it all really began, the manager kept on hushing us saying we can't make noise. I mean we couldn't even say anything because each time anyone of us tried to say something she'll say sssssshhhhhh! we sha kept quiet but my friend was already getting irritated. For the record there were 5 of us all Nigerians (4 ladies & a guy), the manager & her assistant were Caucasian (2 ladies)

After checking out the apartment (which was quite nice btw) we began asking questions about utilities etc. and then came the major questions (since the manager seemed to be so concerned about keeping it quiet) that lead us to really X the place (and the manager) off:

Friend: Is it always this quiet here, I mean you kept on hushing us up on our way in here, can we at least talk?

Manager: Yes it is always quiet.

Friend's mum: so don't you have kids in the complex that run around making noise while playing?

Manager: uhm no because the kids here want to go to college so they spend a lot their time on the computer.

Immediately I heard that I just started walking towards the door because in IMHO that comment had a race undertone to it and I refuse to waste my saliva trying to talk some serious sense into her head. We all just stormed outta the place sha...my friend was soooooo pissed! So because we're black you don't think we'll be interested in college? Like what the heck! 4 of us are already graduates with 1 still in college.

So what do you guys think? was it a harmless statement or did we overreact?

My week.

So I'm not a hard core TGIF person but I look forward to the weekends anyway because 1) It gives me time to get myself together in mind & spirit for the following week
2) I get to cook for the week. I actually lost my cooking mojo for a month or so and recently got it back, I guess the fact that I recently purchased a decent portion of goat meat is an added motivation. So I'll be throwing it down in the kitchen this weekend :)

Work was sorta busy. You see the nature of my job is such that I get to do a lot of paper work & talk to all sorts of people every day, sometimes I get the angry clients who don't understand how things aren't going the way they imagined the would. On most days after doing so much talking at work, I don't even wanna talk to anyone. The only thing on my on my mind is home, food, Larry King & Anderson cooper; on Thursdays add an extra hour of Grey's Anatomy ( I love this show) & on some occasions another hr of Private Practice. I have learnt not to take their rants personal but help them to the best of my ability. I've been trying to teach my co-worker to do the same and so far she has been a good student lol! She had this habit of getting all depressed, angry & blaming herself when she couldn't get through to a client or when things didn't work out quite as well as she anticipated for the client....things are looking up sha.

On the flip side the 2009-2010 NBA pre-season began earlier on this month. Any fellow "LAKER" fans in the house??? I couldn't watch last night's pre-season game against the nuggets but I saw some clips of the game and my guys totally held it down mehn! 106/89 haha!
Last season was one of the best ever not only because we (see claiming sha) won but also I just felt like it was the best team's game. The "Orlando Magic" team did a good job of trying to stop the Lakers but alas! the best team won. I still have love for Dwight Howard though "SUPERMAN". One of the highlights for me was the trashing of Lebron James's "Cleveland Cavaliers" by SUPERMAN and his team....I totally & absolutely loved it

PURE TALENT + HARD WORK = Kobe Bryant

Lets see what Ron Artest can really bring to the table this season.

Lastly I listened to Banky W's "strong thing" track for the first time today and....Let's just say I had much higher expectations because of all the hype but it's okay though.

Okay folks hope you all have a great weekend and be good.

A little more about myself

So
1) I'm female (I bet y'all already knew dat)
2) I'm down to earth.
3) I love to laugh....u can never get too much of that one.
4) I love reading books
5) I love watching movies
6) I love listening to music
7) I'm shy (not one of my friends believes this but I can be shy though)
8) I'm quite interested in political affairs, like my TV by default is always on CNN. It didn't help matters that most of the bloggers I read had their blog rolls listed on the sidebar so I kept on moving from one blog to another reading about people's take on life, experiences and whatnot.

In as much as I loved reading these blogs, I was initially very closed minded to the idea of blogging. I couldn't understand why people chose the internet of all places to express very personal things about themselves.I guess the fact that virtually all the blogs I happened to read were this way, fueled my feeling that way. I mean, left to me (at that time) that's stuff you just don't put out there.

With time though, my thoughts about blogging have evolved. I've learnt quite a bit and sometimes gotten encouragement just from reading someone else's thoughts or experience on various issues. I also saw how so many of you bloggers encouraged one another (very inspiring by the way :))

I realize that blogging can be a form of giving back to humanity because you just never know who you're encouraging, comforting, or advising out there.

And it's for this reason I decided to blog, as one way to give back.

Intro.....

I'm learning
to be more in tune with my self spiritually
to always see the positives in people no matter what
to be less judgmental of people because "it's a grace to know"
to be a better listener
to be wise
to be my best self.
