Summer Rundown

How y'all doing?! :D
Hope everyone's summer has been going great, mine was going jejely until a few weeks ago when I started my second internship for the summer. All I wanna do when I get home is eat and sleep..skip the eating part sometimes sef. It's funny how I have no intention of practicing criminal law but the two internships I got this summer are criminal law related hehe. For the first half of the summer I worked for the prosecution and for the second half I'm working the defense angle..its been interesting but I'd rather be on the prosecution's side sha hehe
Speaking of which, I never realized just how rampant DWI (Driving while intoxicated)/DUI's (Driving under the influence) were until I worked at the DA's this summer. There are signs all over the place warning people not to drink & drive and adverts on the radio and TV warning people not to drink & drive especially during holiday periods but people just keep doing it. Ridiculous, if you ask me. Personally, I don't drink and I have nothing against people who drink as long as they do it responsibly. If you have to get drunk whenever you drink (cos I've met people like that) then while you're budgeting how much you intend spending on your drinks, budget money for the cab you'll be calling to take you home. It's as simple as that.
While at the DA's I was asked to attend a presentation on intoxication manslaughter where a 911 tape was played. On the tape a man had called 911 for help because he was stranded on the road (something was wrong with his car)and needed some assistance. While on the phone he got run over and killed by a drunk driver, like we literally heard the car run over him and silence on the phone after. Just imagine that!
DWI/DUI might be a misdemeanor but best believe it's one of those offenses no one wants to have on their record and it's a pretty serious offense too.
Even with my school buddies, they let me know when they're gonna be drinking a lot so I'm prepared to drive when we hang out together....I'm probably gonna be doing a lot of that cos if the last one year is anything to go by, law students sure like to drink!
Assault cases were another eye opener for me..made me sad sometimes especially when it had to do with family members..plus alcohol/drugs were involved in 99% of the cases.
Anyway, aside all my intern waka summer has been good. Hung out with some non-law peeps along with my law buddies a few days ago and it was refreshing to hang out with people who aren't law students. I'm still relatively new to the area so all the people I know are my law buddies and whenever we hang out we tend to end up discussing legal issues, especially with everyone working at different places and experiencing different areas of law. It's generally a good thing (iThink) but every once in a while one needs a break from it.
I've finally got my workout schedule back in place :). Its taken me almost a year to finally get it back together but I'm glad I have..I have to get up really early to get it done though but I really don't mind, gotta stay healthy!
I totally got called out for my Nigerianess not too long ago hehe. Actually, na me find trouble. I was complaining to my friend who happens to be from this state where my school is located that I felt like people in this place are so pro-state and that it almost felt like all they cared about was themselves and the rest of the country could go to hell, lol. I told her I wasn't used to that coming from cali where everyone was all "we are Californians" but there was still that sense of "we are Americans" there. After several attempts to defend the state without me budging she finally went "how's that different from you Nigerians though? Y'all are the proudest Africans I know, every Nigerian I've ever met is very proud of being Nigerian and makes it known." LOOOOL!! I guess it didn't help me any that her sister happens to be married to a Nigerian hehe I tried convincing her that it was different since we are a country and theirs a state but home girl no gree..she suggested I take trips to other cities within the state before sticking to my conclusions about them cos they are not like that.
I met a few members of the incoming class at one of the events we had in school recently..oh boy! They have no idea hehe but I encouraged them..the first year is tough and I'm sure they realize that and they'll be fine. I will be putting a post about my first year soon
Choi! This post is getting too long sha and I've not even finished saying everything I wanna say, plus it's past my bedtime here. I'll be back yo!
Y'all have a good week and be good :)
