Ponderings & stuvs

Hiya pplz!!!! Hope the summer is treating everyone good? Summer's been alright on this end....the heat don dey get as e be sha but it's all good I guess.

So I've been thinking a lot about experiences. We all go through various experiences in life; some pleasant, others not so pleasant. Unpleasant experiences, as bad as some of mine have been, have taught me some invaluable life lessons. They've also been very humbling....I'm grateful.

I once told someone that one of the scary things about marriage to me is the fact that you've to be able to tell that the person you're getting married to will feel the same way about you & be willing to put in as much effort into the marriage some 10,20,30,40 years down the road as on the wedding day. Over time however, I've come to realize that it's possible to tell, but one has to pay close attention....people show us who they really are.

My co-worker had an interesting question for me a few days back, here's the scenario:
You have an African-American male/female & and a Nigerian male/female dressed exactly the same way in front of you, How are you able to tell the Nigerian? Like what facial features etc. do you look at to tell you they are Nigerian?

I couldn't give her a direct answer, I mean, I really don't know how but most times I'm able to tell who's Nigerian and who's not no matter how they're dressed but I'm not aware of what features make it obvious though. Maybe I need someone to point out to me, what do you all think? Also, I don't know that there's a specific Nigerian look since we all tend to look quite different depending on what part of the country you're from.

My neighbour's dogs decided to go crazy on me sometime last week. As in! The last time I had to scream about dogs like this was in primary 5. It's more puzzling cos I've lived next door to this neighbour for almost 4 years and nothing this serious has ever happened. I really don't know what got into them that day, plus I was carrying a pack of bottled water into the complex when it happened. Y'all should have seen how fast I dropped it LOL! My survival instincts kicked in sharpish yo! It took my neighbour a few seconds to react 'cos they too were surprised. After the incident I just kept on laughing to myself....I'm glad I could laugh about it at the end sha.

That's all folks, be good! :)

  5. How do you tell? It's not by feature, it's in the eyes, a recognition of shared experience. But sometimes, you may not be able to tell too.

I hope the dogs didn't bite you?

  8. Your co-worker's question is really interesting.

Truth is, if they have not spoken, walked or made any gestures, and if both grew up in the same environment from birth, it may be hard (not impossible) to tell. But experience is the best teacher and maybe instincts...

Sorry about the scary dog incident...

  9. Yeah, it's kinda hard to explain how to tell that one is Naija. I guess we just have that 'look'.

So, did the dogs chase you ni? That's def strange. Make your neighbors hol' them oooo.

  10. I can't say for certain that I'd be able to tell them apart. I think we don't realize how much we need little cues such as how certain words are pronounced, hand gestures, etc. to differentiate two people who look otherwise identical.

I hear you on preservation instinct! I'd have reacted the same way. I'm glad you're able to laugh about it though.

  12. I don't have an African blood and for me i don't think that there is a distinction between the two race.
